Pushing Daisies

Pushing Daisies tv seriesNed, a pie-maker, is gifted with the mysterious ability to bring dead things back to life by touching them. There are some conditions to this somewhat unusual talent. Ned quickly learns that if something is revived for more than exactly one minute, something of similar "life value" in the vicinity drops dead, as a form of balance. Additionally, if he touches the revived person or thing a second time, it falls dead again, this time permanently.

Ned discovers his gift as a child by resurrecting his Golden Retriever, Digby, after the dog is hit by a truck. He later brings back his mother when she dies of an aneurysm. However, in doing this, he accidentally causes the death of the father of his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, as the "price" of keeping his mother alive. Even worse, Ned's mother falls dead permanently when she gives him a good-night kiss (which is how he learns the effect of the second touch).

In their childhood, Ned and Chuck become separated after Chuck's agoraphobic aunts, Vivian and Lily, move in to take the role of her parents, while Ned is shipped off by his father to a lonely boarding school.

Inheriting his mother's baking talents, Ned becomes a pie-maker who owns a restaurant called "The Pie Hole", which he runs with the help of waitress Olive Snook (Kristen Chenoweth). The restaurant is failing financially when private investigator Emerson Cod accidentally discovers Ned's gift and offers him a proposal: Ned will bring murder victims back to life, inquire about the circumstances of their untimely death, then touch them once more, all before his set limit of sixty seconds is up. Emerson will then solve the case and they will split the reward money for solving the unanswered questions surrounding the death.

Jim Dale who voices the Narrator, played in Digby, the Biggest Dog in the World (1973). Digby is also the name of Ned's dog.

In the UK the show aired on ITV1, who only had room in their schedule for the usual 8 episodes. Because there are actually 9 in this series ITV didn't air episode 2 at all.

British Anna Friel, who plays Chuck, uses her American accent all the time when on set. The only person she will drop it for is her mother when she calls as she can't stand her daughter using her "American voice".

Based on a rejected plotline for "Dead Like Me" (2003) where Ellen Muth's character couldn't collect any souls because somebody was resurrecting them with a touch.

ABC canceled the show in late November 2008 stating that it will not order any more episodes after all 13 episodes of season 2 will have aired.

The curly font used for the credits, and various other text like some shop signs and books (including "Boutique Travel Travel Boutique") is called Harrington.

New Amsterdam
John Amsterdam, a brilliant NYPD homicide detective is immortal. He is 400 years old, but his body structure is that of a 35-year-old. Amsterdam was a Dutch soldier in the year 1642 when he stepped in front of a sword to save the life of a Native American girl during a massacre of her tribe. The girl in turn rescued Amsterdam by weaving an ancient spell that conferred immortality upon him. It was also prophesied that he would not age until he finds his one true love, and only then will he become whole and ready for mortality.
