Cristina Carvajal has been in jail, wrongly accused of the murder of her husband. Her children, 15 and 11 years old, are in the custody of the relatives of her deceased husband, whom they don't love and know nothing about their mother. As she needs work, she begins to work as a maid in the house of her attorney, Jose Armando, who is married to a woman ill with a lethal disease, Gisela, and Crisitina takes a good care of her. Jose Armando gradually begins to fall in love with Cristina, but she is more interested in getting back her children, Karina and Rosita. The struggle becomes very hard, because her children think that she is dead and that she is the one who is responsible for the death of their father. The indomitable spirit of this woman prevails and holds the plot of this novela.
