The story takes place in XIX century. Gabriel Paredes was born in
poverty and ignorance in Oaxaca. The meeting with Lorenza, a country
teacher, will change his life. Lorenza teaches and loves him. Gabriel
joins the Juarista's Army and becomes a General. In the capital he
meets Lydia, an aristocratic woman who is also a Lorenza's student.
They fall in love and marry, and they have three children: Lorenza (or
Loren), Gabriel Felipe and Cecilia. Thirty years pass. Gabriel Paredes
is a devoted subaltern of the president Porfirio Diaz. Loren is a girl
who before rebels against her father and now rebels against her
husband. This one will be killed in the battle at the Rio Blanco
Massacre. Gabriel Felipe returns from his studies abroad and has the
progressive ideas contrasting to his father's ones. The revolution
bursts and the Paredes family will take different ways, which will
separate them.
