Caridad is a single woman and respected teacher, but her heart is
broken by Arturo, her past fiance, who abandoned her to marry a rich
Laura. Caridad is courted by Carlos, an Inspector of Education
Ministry. She has a orphan cousin Claudio whom she loves as her own
son. She also has a friend, a young teacher Barbara, who is a rebel and
she lives ashamed of her mother, who is a lover of a married man. The
Government begins a campaign to teach the rural areas of the country to
read and write, and Carlos tells Caridad that her help is needed. In
the meantime, Arturo returns to the country, but her wife Laura suffers
from a total amnesia and Caridad is contracted to teach her to read and
write. Then she will try to help Arturo's children Victoria and Jorge
with their love affairs with Claudio and Barbara. But these affairs
will fail and she will remain alone.
